Cookies for Kairos
This October, Kairos Prison Ministry will host Kairos Weekend at Perry Correctional Institution, October 1–4, 2026.
Twice each year, Kairos brings together clergy and lay volunteers for a weekend of conversation, teaching, meals, music, prayer, and fellowship with men inside the prison. One of the simplest and most tangible parts of the weekend is distributing cookies.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, cookies are delivered cell by cell to nearly 800 inmates, as well as correctional officers and staff. In all, about 5,000 dozen cookies are needed for the weekend.
Saint Thomas has been asked to provide 100 dozen cookies.
When to Bring Cookies
Please bring cookies to worship on:
Sunday, September 20
Sunday, September 27
Homemade and purchased cookies are both welcome.
Cookie Guidelines
Please follow these guidelines carefully so the cookies can be accepted and safely distributed inside the correctional institution.
Size and Type
Cookies should be:
About 2 to 2½ inches in diameter
No more than ½ inch thick
Thick enough that they will not easily break when repackaged
Please do not use:
Frosting or coatings
Powdered sugar
Sprinkles
Decorative sugar or other decorations
Feel free to use your favorite cookie recipe as long as it follows these guidelines.
Cookies may also be made ahead of time and frozen.
Packaging Instructions
Allow cookies to cool completely before packaging. This helps prevent them from sticking together.
Please package cookies in sturdy boxes such as:
Shoeboxes
Pizza boxes
Shirt or gift boxes
Similar-sized cardboard boxes
Line boxes with wax paper.
Please do not use:
Aluminum foil
Zip-top plastic bags
Boxes will be stacked during transportation, so sturdy packaging is important.
Pray Over Your Cookies
Before bringing your cookies, take a moment to pray for the people who will receive them.
Pray for the men at Perry Correctional Institution, for the correctional officers and staff, and for the Kairos volunteers serving throughout the weekend.
